Default Love Songs

First off, Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you all have a loved-one to spend the day with; Romantic or not~
If not then have a happy Singles Awareness Day!

What are your favorite love songs? Anything to do with love; from "oh hot dawg I'm in love" to "baaawww i'm not in love" to "oh god i hate my wife"

I like
- All Beatles (INCLUDING McCartney, Harrison, Starr, and Lennon's seperate works)
- All Rolling Stones
- All Buddy Holly
- All Frank Sinatra (if this '30s clothing thing goes in style, I hope the music does too)
- Most Johnny Cash love songs (All Over Again; Ring of Fire; It Ain't Me Babe; Walk the Line etc)
- Billie Jean by MJ (is that a love song? I guess it sorta is)
- I Think I have a Chance with this Guy by Whats her face (lolHomestar)
- A Teenager in Love (lolRabbids. I LOVE THAT VERSION. Wish I had it ;^;. )
- What is Love (... lololol. someone dressed up as a Roxbury guy for Halloween. They walked through the halls doing the headbob dance. )
- Never Gonna Give You Up (more like RICK ROLL)
- Great Balls of Fire
- Woman by Wolfmother (Haven't heard that song in SO LONG ;_; )
- Lots of Meatloaf songs (he's a character :3)
- Superman by Lazlo Bane (it's the Scrubs theme; like Scrubs, it says a lot more about life than it seems to)
- Maybe & I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire by The Ink Spots (lolFallout; but that's more of an OH CRAP APOCALYPSE song for me than Love)
- Beyond on the Sea by Bobby Darin (yes, it's the credit song from Finding Nemo)
- Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall by Ella Fitzerald (This describes Fallout a lot, as well. It's on the OST)
- Nearly everything else on the BioShock & Fallout OST (killing mutants to the Nutcracker Waltz is surreal at the least, freakin' awesome at the greatest)
- Most Doors songs
- Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N' Roses
- I Ran by Flock of Seagulls (It's the theme to Vice City, and it is sorta weird. It's about an alien invasion basically, but it's also a love song. )

wow, this list is long.
I might add more later; I have a lot of love songs since I listen to a lot of older music :3. A lot of these songs I'll not think of for their love song qualities; mostly for their rhythm.
notice there's no anime :3

I nearly tear up whenever I hear A Thousand Miles; good song.
How popular is Nightwish? I like their styles; reminds me of a lot of the Anime music I listen to if it had a rock opera/gothic rock flair.

Nah, they aren't at all. I meant that the Anime music I listen to or have heard is symphonic like Nightwish is, as well as the same sort of poetic lyric style.
It really depends, though.

Oh. I never really heard of them before, but I might purchase some of their songs off of iTunes now that i have.
Congrats on the 500, btw.

Yes, they are real good!

Another love song I had forgotten about for a long time is Lay Down, by Priestess. I first heard it 2 years, and I always thought it was about a guy killing his girlfriend O-o.
I just found out today, after listening to it for the first time in months, that it's actually about a person trying to come to grips with a loved ones death.

Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana.
I don't know why I forgot that one :|.
and Heart by Magic Man. I can't help but think of a character from Okage: Shadow King whenever I hear that song, thanks to one of my Heart-loving friends xD;.

In ancient times, all poetry was sung. The poet is pictured playing a lyre or other instrument. There was no separation of lyrics and melody as we now think of them. Unfortunately none of the melodies for these early love lyrics has survived but it's easy to imagine a softly strummed harp and a husky voice singing the words that have come down to us.

Though they are thousands of years old, the earliest love songs sound so contemporary, so honest, so urgent, they might have been written yesterday. They are proof that human emotions have not changed. When we fall in love today, we feel what men and women felt in centuries past: desire, joy, disappointment, yearning, fulfillment.

So just how far back can we trace love songs? When Pharoah Rameses wanted to tell a beautiful, bronze-skinned Egyptian lady that he found her desirable, did he have a court musician sing something that sounded like "Love Me Tender"? In a way, he did. We have recovered 3500-year-old Egyptian love poems from pieces of papyrus and pottery fragments. They are filled with the language and sentiments we hear in today's pop songs.

The oldest written record of love songs comes from an area around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers known as Sumeria. The cone-shaped cuneiform script of Sumer was pressed into clay tablets which have survived to this day, giving us a glimpse into the Top 40 songs - or, at any rate, the lyrics - of 4000 years ago. These poem/songs were written in praise of the Sumerian gods and goddesses, notably Inana, a Moon and fertility goddess, and Dumiz (or Tamuz), a god of crops and fields. But like the later Hebrew "Song Of Songs," the religious context seems slight indeed. The songs speak to us of the very real emotions of young lovers, sensual pleasure, and romantic encounters.

In the lyrics for the song "My Honey Sweet" can be seen the very same type of repetition we use today in pop songs. A repeated line - which is called a "hook" in today's music - is easy to remember and catches the listener's attention.
